Overview of the period from 5th of September to 16th of September

I’m going to give you a little overview of the first 2 weeks of kindergarten.
Lots of changes have been happening in our kindergarten. We moved to another flat where we have a huge, beautiful and light room. The class has two new teachers, Kata and Nori and Laura is the assistant teacher. We will introduce ourselves on the 19th of September at the parents’ meeting.
September is the month of introduction and re-introduction period for the children. They have met their friends again and also made some new friends. They have been getting used to their new environment. New place, new people, new children. This is a lot to take in for a child.
In the first 2 weeks of the new school year we have been getting the children familiar with the classroom, with the toys in the different areas of the classroom (Practical, Sensory, Mathematics, Language, Science), with the classroom rules, the daily routine and the self care tasks. The children have chosen toys from the Practical and Sensory areas this week.
This will continue all through September and in the following months. We continuously pay attention to all the above mentioned issues and tasks but they get a huge emphasis at the very beginning of each school year.
During Circle Time we have been learning the rules and the routine of this special activity of the day. We have been singing some old songs we all know and have learnt some new ones. We did rhythmic activities, read stories and played games.
The Fit Kid gym class has started last week. The kids will be divided into 2 groups. Each group will have a 40 min. long gym class.
Our topic based kindergarten teaching program is starting at the beginning of October.

Summary - Montessori Development Lesson

It is a summary of our past 3-4 weeks of  the Montessori Lesson.
At the end of October we said Goodbye to two of our lovely kids Pedro and Moe. They are greatly missed. We wish them and their families the best of luck for the future.
Our Diwali celebration was very nice and atmospheric. We got together wit the Day Care group to celebrate with music, dancing and some sweets. We are specially thankful for the beautiful Indian dresses that Natasha's Mom brought in to show the children.

In the past week we have learnt about Autumn. The changes in the weather  and in nature. We sang about the falling leaves and made beautiful leaf rubbings.

Our next theme is going to be Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is celebrated in the US but since we have an international group of kids we try to show them cultural diversity. Thanksgiving gives us a great opportunity to focus on being thankful and also learn some exciting facts about history.

Sumary of the week (from 9th of Nov to 13th of Nov)

This week we learned about pets! On Monday we learned about veterinarians and how they care for our pets when they are sick or hurt by reading a picture book all together.

The following day we read the book, "Just Me and My Puppy", that taught us how we have to take care of our pets at home. On Wednesday we did arts and crafts. Each of the children were able to create their own pet choosing from a dog, cat, fish, or a bunny. The next day we had gym and yoga. Then on Friday we had Show and Tell with our pets.

Each of the boys and girls brought in a pet stuffed animal from home. Then, during Show and Tell each of the children sat in front of the whole class and showed their pet to everyone. The boys and girls loved speaking about their pets to the whole group. Overall, we had a great week and ended on a very fun filled Friday.

This coming weeks theme is family. We will be talking about about each other's families and how our families are important to each of us.

The week of October 26-30 the theme was Halloween. The kids especially enjoyed this week making many arts & crafts decorations such as Ghosts jack o lanterns and carving pumpkins.  We also learned new Halloween songs and Friday had a Halloween party where the kids dressed up in some of their favorite characters and were so excited to share their costumes with everyone else. We then went knocking next door saying trick or treat to see whether the kids will receive a treat and they sure did. They all had big smiles on their faces. We ended our Halloween party with some yummy treats after lunch.

The children are now looking forward to a new month with many fun activities planned.

Our new topic that we will also be learning about this coming week is the Five Senses. At the beginning of the week we learned three new songs about the five senses and read a book called "My Five Senses" by Aliki Brandenburg. On Tuesday we did a taste test to experience how we taste with our tongue and discussed that each of us may like or dislike the taste of different types of foods. The foods we tasted during the taste test were lemons, potato chips, and marshmallows. Then, on Wednesday we focused on the sense of hearing by listening to different sounds such as, animals and different forms of transportation. After the children listened to these sounds they then had to state what the sound was they heard. The boys and girls were very excited when they were playing this game individually and together. At the end of the week all of the children had the chance to smell different spices such as cinnamon, rosemary, and ginger. Cinnamon was voted the favorite smell!

This coming week we will continue to learn about the five senses. We will be focusing on the two senses of seeing and touching. We all are very eager to continue our topic of the five senses!

Kata's Lesson:

Last week we learned about different fruits we eat in the Fall. Grapes, apples and pears. We sang about them, observed them and finally ate them. We looked at the colors, touched the skin and smelled the wonderful Autumn fruits.
At the same time we played with nice and colorful Autmn leaves.
We did lots of crative activities. We made apple trees, leaf drawing with crayons, corck painting and a Fall tree pictures with colorful tissue paper. The children made beautiful a decorative projects.
In the following two weeks we are going to discover the magic of Halloween.

Montessori Development Lesson from 28 th of Sept to 2nd of Oct:

In the past week we have started our new topic which is "The Daily Routine".
We went through all the activities that the kids do during the day. We have learnt songs about our morning routine, bath time and dinner time. There are some new toys on the shelves. The fruit basket is a big hit and we have a new number game as well.
This week we studied numbers. We started the week singing new number songs, singing up to 20 and up to 100. Afterwards we had a number scavenger hunt in the classroom. The next day we presented the red and blue number rods with numbers 1 to 5. Then on Wednesday we did the same but presented the numbers 6 to 10. Thursday, we read the Dr. Seuss book "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish." At the end of the week we had gym and yoga, as usual. We continued with the ABC's yoga from last week because the children showed a major interest in these certain yoga positions.

Here are a few pictures from this weeks activities! This coming week we will be learning about the Fall season.
